If a set-gid bit is all that is needed why not just have the install create the
default db directory (/var/spool/bogofilter) with the correct permissions?
(That is much to simple - must be something wrong with the idea? Security? You
could have debconf ask about it?)
If creating a bogofilter user is too complicated, setting up sudo is worse.
There has to be a clean way to resolve this. There are many ways to ask a
question or two in debconf to put this to rest. I have it all working on my
system and don't think I will forget the issue for a year or two, but it just
seems you will hear about this issue for eternity unless it is thought out and a
clean solution is worked out. There has to be a way to make it so your
grandmother can install it to work with her MUA and Joe sysop can still do his
thing without stepping on anyones toe.
Just so this dummy can understand - How would creating bogofilter.bogofilter be
so annoying?
I can imagine at installation -- the screen turns blue and debconf asks:
If more than one user and/or MTA user will use bogofilter, do you want to
control bogofilter usage by creating a bogofilter user? Yes/No
Should bogofilter check for db file ownerships and provide a clear error message
or do you want to be left alone and live with the cryptic Bdb error message?
Yes/No
There should be better wording and perhaps a bit of concise explanation - but
what do you lose?
