I do something similar, but not using a firewall.  I use this:

I feed it from multiple data sources including clamav and some
custom log-analysis scripts.  At the moment I'm blocking over
20,000 IP addresses.  Up until a few weeks ago I would typically
block a half million addresses, but then I loosened my critera
a bit.
