Hello!
 From an outsider's point of view: If this feature is really
bothersome and difficult to integrate cleanly remove it (at least
temporarily) and concentrate on more important issues.

I have not done any benchmarks, but
"formail -s bogofilter" has to be slower than "bogofilter -s",
starting 5000 instances of bogofilter has to take its toll. Imho it
simply depends on how big the difference is whether it is sensible to
integrate '-s' functionality in bogofilter itself.

You might want to include a small perl-script (is this a one-liner?) as a
replacement for "formail -s" with bogofilter to get rid of this
external dependeny.
