RedHat installation notes

Hello,

I'm writing to report a successful installation of bogofilter on RedHat 8.0, with one caveat: the man pages were not installed in the correct folder. To overcome this issue, I ran ./configure with a --mandir=/usr/share/man/man1. Then, after installation, I gzipped the four manpage files installed in that directory. (All of the other files in that directory are gzipped, though I'm not if that's necessary for proper operation of the man pages.)

Thank you to all the folks that have contributed to this software. I will continue to talk it up to anyone who will listen!

Jason,

Can you give us more details please? Which version of bogofilter? How did
you do the install? From the .tgz or an .rpm? If an rpm, which one? In
which directory did the man pages go and where did you expect them?

Note that rpm is not a true standard. There are variations depeending on
which distribution(s) are involved. For example, on Mandrake man pages
generally are bzipped to save space. Since the rpms are built on Mandrake,
RedHat may not be getting exactly what it wants.

David
