"only-combined" branch in CVS

Hi,

I have branched the CVS code to play with removing "separate word lists"
on a side branch, to let the main trunk stabilize further.

I have thrown out some of the separate-list code, but a lot remains to
be removed and cleaned up - some layers of  indirection are no longer
needed.

I consider the removal of "separate word list" the step that needs to be
completed before migrating the datastore_db stuff to use DB-native
locking/cache sharing/transactions; the latter will prevent data base
corruption in cases of crashes, on write errors or out-of-space
conditions.

The current status is that "make check" passes after t.separate has been
removed.
