I just checked automake-1.7.6's lib directory:
lib/config.guess:timestamp='2003-07-02'
lib/config.guess:# time-stamp-start: "timestamp='"
lib/config.sub:timestamp='2003-07-04'
lib/config.sub:# time-stamp-start: "timestamp='"
So I'd think installing automake-1.7.6 would fix this for
good. (otherwise, autoreconf may nuke the updated versions -- and they
don't belong into CVS, because autoreconf builds them).
Remember to run autoreconf -f -i -s -v after the automake update.
As to the packaging, automake takes care of that, too, it runs tar with
the "h" option, dereferencing symbolic links.
