0.8.0.rc3 passed my tests on linux and hp-ux, but i've learned that
my testing is not complete (i don't use -p, -u, etc.).

"make check" fails on hp-ux because of an incompatible mktemp and not
null-friendly "head" and i am glad to see both issues fixed in cvs for the
next release.
