Yesterday and today have been rather interesting in the realm of
bogofilter publicity and downloads.

As background, about 2 weeks ago Jef P. told us about his article "ACME
Labs mail filtering tutorial" at http://www.acme.com/mail_filtering/
'Tis nicely written, though the "bogofilter is too slow" comment
surprised me. Thinking about it though, I realized that in a bogofilter
only environment, every spam message must be fully delivered before it
can be scored, and that puts a burden on the incoming internet
connection. Using info about spammer's IP address at SMTP connection
(and Jef's other techniques) lessen that burden and reduce the workload
for bogofilter. Interesting stuff ...

Yesterday Jef was /.ed with title "IT: I am the Most Spammed Person in
the World". When I got home from work yesterday evening, my 17 yr old
had read Jef's article and predicted a /. effect on bogofilter. Indeed
bogofilter activity on SourceForge is up sharply since the article.

The 60 day statistics graph is at:

http://sourceforge.net/project/stats/detail.php?group_id=62265&ugn=bogofilter&type=prdownload&mode=60day&package_id=0

Neat stuff, eh?

And, Jef, thanks for the publicity.

Regards,

David
