One thing I am not clear on is whether David's "bogofilter -u" is running from /etc/procmailrc or from $HOME/.procmailrc.

It seems acceptable that commands run from /etc/procmailrc, which should only be editable by root, should be run as root.

However if commands in $HOME/.procmailrc, editable by the user, are being run as root, then something is probably wrong.
