They are two separate options.
  c create archive
  r insert files into archive, with replacement.

it's what you use when ranlib is not available.

We'll pick this up later.
Try the attached configure.new script which uses ar instead of ranlib.

Lots of programs build fine DGUX so it should be possible to get bogofilter
working on it too.
