training is SLOW

I'm using Bogofilter 0.14.3, and debian sarge

Did  my once a month re-train session, and man it is a slow process
now.

Before ti would take a few hours to run through 60,000+ email, and
less than 1000 spam. It was still churning along after 24 hours, and
not done yet.

It shouldn't be my system;

Kernel          : Linux 2.4.20-xfs
Distribution    : Debian GNU/Linux testing/unstable
Main Memory     : 607 megabytes
Uptime          : 09:13:43 up 7 days, 20:15, 4 users, load average: 0.22, 0.50, 0.62 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Duron(tm) 1300 MHz processor
