As intended.
0.16.x is known as the "Code Cleanup Release - Phase 1". As such, the
default build is in "cleaned up" mode, but it can be built with the
deprecated code enabled. So, "-2", "-3", etc apply (or not) depending
on build options. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to have dual-build
documentation.
"Code Cleanup - Phase 2" will appear in a few weeks as release 0.17.0.
The deprecated code will be removed and the documentation will be
revised. FWIW, the revised documentation already exists, but has not
yet been released.
