Yes, that's easy: Use xmllint --noout --postvalid example.xml, xmllint
ships with libxml2 and is installed on your machine because xmlto
depends on it. If you see network traffic while xmllint and xmlto are
running, please try to install the DocBook XML doctypes locally, they
should come with Mandrake or else be available as .zip from
http://docbook.sourceforge.net/ AFAIR.
