Interesting.  Very interesting.  The numbers in t.dump.load.sum are from 
"wc -l -w".  I wonder if we're seeing a locale effect.  Test script 
t.dump.load _does_ unset LANG, LC_ALL, and LC_COLLATE.  Is there something 
else that wc needs?

In any case, please run t.dump.load from the command line and send me a 
.tar.gz of the results, which will be in the tmp subdirectory.  I'll 
compare them against what I get and we'll see what we can learn.
