I've seen that happen on exactly that version (Office 97 SP2 default
install of the German edition) -- maybe you turned that off... but
nevermind, such articles are floating around, particularly when HTML is
involved (as is common with spam, because it allows for colorful
pictures and web bugs and ... you name it).
