portability issues

Greetings,

Release 0.9.0 is being ... interesting.  A number of tests were added to 
the build system to detect regressions.  So far they've identified several 
issues, the first 2 of which are clearly portability issues.

1 - FreeBSD qsort() uses +1, 0, -1 values while Linux is happen with 1 and 0.
2 - Linux allows char 0x92 in tokens, while Linux does not.
3 - seen but not yet explained
4 - t.systest failed on arm.  details unknown. awaiting more info.

Problem 1 was actually fixed shortly before 0.9.0 was put on SourceForge.

Problem 2 was identified this morning and will be in 0.9.0.2 when it goes out.

Problems 3 and 4 are still being investigated.
