From matthias.andree at gmx.de Sun Sep 17 13:16:07 2017 From: matthias.andree at gmx.de (Matthias Andree) Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2017 13:16:07 +0200 Subject: Mailing list administrative info Message-ID: <63ee4b2a-f583-83c8-a587-f8208b2e0b4b@gmx.de> Greetings, if you rarely mail the bogofilter lists, your initial mail in five weeks may be delayed by several minutes, depending on your outbound mail relay's retry schedule, and if your outbound relay is listed as a spam hoster, you may be unable to reach the lists. The mail server that I use to run the bogofilter lists has been under massive spam attacks recently, hammered mostly from dynamic-IP ranges in .CN and .PH trying to send Chinese spam to various addresses that I forward off-site. This has caused massive mail delays due to temporary policy rejections in the outbound path for a few receiving domains because they (namely GMX, where I forward some non-list mail to) decided the inbound spam ratio was far too high. I have had to employ restrictive measures, such as real-time DNS blacklists (I am not banning dialups yet though), greylisting, and header-based content-filtering that specifically targets idiocyncrasies of the spam, and I have several larger Chinese netblocks even in the IP filter and blackholed the whole area. I will observe the DNS BL and greylisting in particular, to see when the hammering subsides; if you have any concerns or trouble mailing the bogofilter lists for legit e-mail, let me know OFF-LIST. Sorry. Regards, Matthias
