Maybe the intro should start with a low level explanation
which even those can understand who do know nothing about
statistics and the like:

"Bogofilter is a mail filter that classifies mail as spam or
non-spam by a statistical analysis of the header as well as
the content (body) of the messsages. The program is able to
learn from the user's classification and corrections." (OWTTE)
